Our Projects.

We aim to offer a range of unique opportunities to all members of our community to learn and explore in nature using the 6 forest school principles. We will be developing a range of projects to inspire, educate and develop interest in nature.

 Outdoor Learning
WHAT IS FOREST SCHOOL?

Forest School is a child led educational experience that takes place in the outdoors over a set number of repeated visits. It promotes, observes, and supports the social, emotional, and physical development of children in an outdoor setting, usually in woodland. It creates and provides opportunities for learning through play and activities such as building shelters, exploring, and discovering the natural environment, making things using natural materials, using tools, playing games, and experiencing basic outdoor cooking. The programme will progress according to the interest of the group. Forest School staff are trained to support children’s learning, behaviour, independence, self-confidence, self-esteem, and risk management skills.

Therapeutic Forest School
Forest School Project 1

'Encouraging the children to be involved in caring for the environment and becoming good citizens. The children have worked tirelessly to keep the forest school site tidy. They have worked together to use tools and equipment to appropriately clear litter from the site making the area a safer place for wildlife, themselves and other members of the community who enjoy our beautiful site.

The forest school leaders also invite other charities, groups and individuals to participate in skill shares, workshops and team building activities which can boost individual health and wellbeing, extend knowledge and skills, improve and extend relationships while enjoying our beautiful site.

Exploring the Environment
Forest School Project 2.

Exploring the habitats that our local wildlife live in. Creating bug houses and bird boxes using real tools and working in collaboration with Duncan  at Mayfield Nurseries.  We have since gone on to create a small woodland walk, created dead wood piles for stag beetles and habitats for our resident slow worms. The children have created bird feeding stations and we have more projects planned over the next 12 months that we hope will encourage more wildlife and mini beasts onto our site.
